From First to Last
"But now, since all restraint being removed, there was visited upon the downtrodden South, all that vile and malicious spleen, measures passed and brought to bear against a proud and valoureous people, too vile to contemplate and only could have emanated out of a heart blackened with sin and corruption, holding close communication with the devil and his unholy angel."
From the book: "LIBERTY DETHRONED"
Charles Montague Calhoun 1903
This is a picture of my Great Grandfather, who was the first Monty Calhoun. I guess I will be the last. He was a great patriot that was twice wounded in battle during the War Between the States. He, and his father, Dr. Ramsey Calhoun brought the railroad to Greenwood, South Carolina and were the earliest settlers in that area. Earlier, in that same area, twenty two adults, mostly Calhouns, were massacred by the Cherokee Indians and thrown in a ditch. Nine children were scalped. This was known as the "Lone Cane Massacre." Maybe this is the reason that I've always had a great love for trains... and never owned a Jeep "Cherokee!"
Glenn Beck and yours truly at his "Rally for America". This was back in 2003 which is exactly 100 years after my Great Grandfather's book. We provided 1000 "Patriotic CDs," at no charge, for those that attended. They went fast! Glenn has one in his hand. I really enjoyed meeting him. A fine young man and patriot.
