You know you are walking in to something extraordinary the moment you enter Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood. There is no other building like it in the world. Newels are the posts at the end of each railing on the stairs. At Timberline they were made from recycled cedar telephone poles. Each newel in the main and south stairways feature a unique carving of a bird and animal of the Pacific Northwest. This book is a collection of my drawings of the newels in the order you would see them starting on the ground floor walking up the stairs.
