Set in 1794, on the French colony of Saint Lucia, Take Me to Mon Repos tells the story of a stand-off between Bwigan, a runaway slave actively on a mission to burn down the plantations; and the owners of the plantation where Bernelle, Bwigan's love interest, is enslaved. The plantation owners: Garnier, a curt and aloof French Royalist and his wife Catherine, a poet and abolitionist, try to use Bernelle in their plan to capture Bwigan and turn him over to the British.

Take Me to Mon Repos, presented here in both English and in Kwyl as Mennen Mwen Mon Repos, provides an illustration of the political, economic, cultural, and spiritual dynamics that spurred the process of creolization in the Caribbean. The play gives expression to a dream of home; a desire to create a new space. It heralds the shaping of a creole persona out of shattering worlds and the fashioning of a creole yard for healing and tranquility. To reach Mon Repos, would be to attain the dream of wholeness and peace.
