ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The emblematic work of Federico Garca Lorca in a unique format.

The Romancero Gitano (Gypsy Ballads) is one of the most significant lyrical creations of the twentieth century. The culminating point of Lorca's first aesthetic stage, the poet himself defines it as the poem of Andalusia, and I call it gypsy because the gypsy is the highest, the deepest, the most aristocratic of my country, the most representative of his way and the one who keeps the ember, the blood and the alphabet of the Andalusian and universal truth. It is, however, a book where the Andalusia that is seen is hardly expressed, but where the one that is not seen is trembling: an anti-picturesque, anti-folkloric, anti-flamenco book..., where the figures serve millenary backgrounds and where there is nothing more than a large and dark character like a summer sky... the Penalty. This volume offers the magnificent edition of Christian De Paepe, recognized as one of the main Lorquistas, with a study of the aesthetics and structure of the Romancero and a detailed thematic and stylistic annotation. To this are added the General Introduction of Esperanza Ortega, a rich documentary appendix and commentaries on the romances.
