Durante la Guerra Cristera, un monje llega a un pueblo serrano de Michoacn con una extraa frasca. Para el ojo comn adentro slo hay una granja de hormigas, pero para algunas personas especiales oculta un tesoro: decenas de monedas de oro capaces de cumplir cualquier deseo. El cura decide entregarla a un tendero bajo la consigna de que ste haga lo mismo con quien logre ver su contenido. Tiempo despus el afortunado aparece en forma de un humilde arriero, que no tarda en reconocer las propiedades mgicas del oro y tambin sus peligrosas tentaciones.
