This book takes an easygoing look at the important relationship between music and worship. The Bible teaches that God, through Jesus Christ, is the author/creator/originator of music and that it has particular relevance to worship of the Lord. In the secular world, science has studied music's effects on the human condition for generations. How much greater value is there, then, for music to be used for the sacred application of the Christian believer in his/her approach to worship? In a corporate church setting or one's daily walk with God, music is woven into our lives. Written from 40 years of experience, this book looks at the biblical teaching about music utilizing historical, scriptural, and testimonial references, informing the reader to access a deeper understanding of music and the God who established music for His people. With that, hopefully, a more enhanced relationship with God through music will be the result. Not how-to-worship, but a why-music-matters to worship book. Included are appendices of Bible books and their respective music references. The journey is well worth taking. I'm Steve Comer, a teacher of most age groups and worship leader for 40 years. A composer, an arranger, musician, and Music Director, I've performed and taught all around the Washington, D.C. area. Also, I collect comic books! I received my bachelor's degree in education from George Mason University and a master's degree in biblical studies from Capital Bible Seminary. My calling to music came at an early age. My later calling became my passion: to study and educate people about the connection between music, the Bible, and the Christian's life in worship. I am married (forty years) with four grown children, a native Virginian currently living in Manassas, VA.
