It was three years before the second world war began that I was born in a town called Terneuzen. This small community is close to the city of Antwerp in Belgium. It was in those days isolated form the rest of Holland by a large river, called the " Schelde." In these memoirs I will travel with you from the tumultuous times of the second World war, to the present period of the upheavals in America. You will also get a feeling of the stresses and the anxieties caused by certain diseases, such as muscular dystrophy and mental illness. This story will also confront you with the difficulties that an immigrant physician was experiencing in America. I will invite you to travel with me to the many different countries that I was able to visit during my many years of exploring this wonderful world. It is my intention to make some predictions about the future of our country and the possible changes that will be necessary to make this again a more viable society, with the emphasis on both reforming the public educational school system and the resurrection of the family structure that has deteriorated so much. Writing this book was a therapeutic exercise for me, transforming the many "ups and downs" which occurred during my life into an interesting educational story. Many readers will find solace and comfort when reading these pages and they will be able to identify with the many hardships that life will bring. Like the Sea and Its Waves, this book will show you how unpredictable one's life can be and how with spirituality we can create resilience, realizing that "The Lord is in charge".
