The Ride Home is an inspirational book about the best of life and sports, faith and leading, honesty and character. It speaks on the importance of being prepared, chasing our dreams, and "staying in the game." It a book about the beautiful simplicity of the game of ball and the equally beautiful complexity of the life lessons surrounding it. As with many things, there is so much more to learn below the obvious surface, and I found those long rides home to be a sweet and colorful canvas on which to spread my ideas on living well, and how humans respond to both praise and challenge, and how it it equally important to nurture fellings as well as skills. While some act out their callings in board rooms, mine has been honed in locker rooms and on ball fields, in hotel meeting rooms and in dugouts. Over thousands of miles and too many innings and quarters to count, I've gotten the gift of living out my calling while helping to develop and encourage our next generation of leaders.
It is honest true-life experiences that are wrapped in small-town sports stories that will impact players, parents and participants alike, inviting us all to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.
