My Papa Has Colon Cancer is a non-fiction children's book. This book is written from the eyes of a granddaughter who lives with her grandpa while he is fighting colorectal cancer. Words like cancer, chemotherapy, port, surgery, hospital, and colostomy bag can be confusing for a child to understand. Witnessing it all first hand, can be very scary for a young child, just as it can be for an adult. Arabella and her Papa found funny ways to make all of these words and situations seem almost "normal" in our house. My hope, is that sharing our positive journey in colorectal cancer, helps children to be less frightened about cancer, and instead, enjoy the time that they have with their loved ones. I hope this true story gives some ideas of how to make it memorable and fun!
