Mission Grfica: Reflecting a Community in Print

As a community print center of diversity and cultural ferment, Mission Grfica has produced challenging, aesthetically outstanding artwork of social and political relevance from 1982 to the present. Over one hundred full-color screenprints were selected from thousands produced by the many artists who passed through the studio.

This abundantly illustrated narrative situates Mission Grfica within the context of the rich history of political posters in the San Francisco Bay Area. and includes an evocative introduction by US Poet Laureate Juan Felipe Herrera. Mission Grfica: Reflecting a Community in Print offers inspiration for new generations of graphic expression.

The artwork presented reflects an enormous variety of styles, approaches and sensibilities. The artists range from non-professional and emerging artists to well-known figures such as Nancy Hom, Rupert Garcia, Mildred Howard, Jean La Marr, Ester Hernandez, Michael Roman, Jesus Barraza, Favianna Rodriguez and the San Francisco Print Collective, as well as the four principle artists involved over the course of Grfica, Jos Sances, Ren Castro, Juan R. Fuentes and Calixto Robles.

Every aspect of the creation of this book was a collaborative effort involving Juan R. Fuentes, Robbin Lgre Henderson, Michelle Mouton, Calixto Robles, Jos Sances and author Art Hazelwood.
