Everyone should treat the topic of toxins in clothes personally, even if you have not yet suffered personal tragedy, as I have. The reason simply: one of the biggest and largest unrecognised contributors to bioaccumulation of toxins comes through our skin into our bloodstream, from direct contact with the clothing we choose to wear everyday, all day long.
Shocking.. After all, can we not depend on assurances from clothing manufacturers and government regulatory agencies that everything we place on our skin is guaranteed to be safe? Through our documentary & my experience as a designer I have discovered, in reality, it is quite the opposite. Trust has been misplaced, our best intentions undermined, as science evidence presented in this book and its companion documentary. You have a right to choose to buy and wear clothes that don't poison your body. You have a right to not be deceived and lied to about the identity and safety of ingredients in your clothing and other consumer products. You have a right to hold accountable those companies that profit from sacrificing human health. No woman should suffer and die of breast cancer, unknowingly wearing the cause of her suffering. No son should die of prostate cancer from toxic underwear. No daughter should develop pregnancy complications or cervix cancer from endocrine disrupters in her yoga pants. Consider the information detailed in this book and its Let Them Be Naked companion documentary to be a clarion call to help you to help us to shatter our complacency with mindful and impassioned action. As in all industries unless the consumer demands it the shift will not happen as we all know the motivation is mostly always profit in society today. I want to give back the power of choice to the consumer by the research and knowledge in this book on fashion.
