When the Library of Alexandria was destroyed by arsonists, the Master Librarian rescued a backpack full of rare, magical books, and a clutter of highly evolved cats. From the beginning, these literate cats became vital assets in protecting the priceless collection of books. To this day, these noble Guardian Cats continue to maintain this trust, each having passed their positions to worthy successors.
Cicero is the current Guardian of one of these books, the Book of Motion, hidden in a chamber deep beneath a sleepy, small town library. The Book, endowed with a supernatural lifeforce, is just the kind of artifact that becomes a magnet for megalomaniacs.
When the story opens, Cicero, the elder guardian is training Marco, his young protg about the ways of men. An avid reader and beloved library cat with a room of his own, Cicero often quotes wise men about the dangers of power. "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power," he tells Marco.
Cicero's old archenemy, a dark Magician who would sell his soul to obtain the Book, reappears, along with his shadowy companions, the Whisperers. He calls himself Professor Chin, but he is no teacher. He believes he is destined to create a new world order. He is convinced that the Book of Motion is like Hitler's Spear of Destiny, a tool he must possess to achieve his mission and will stop at nothing to make the Book his own.
The elder Cicero and young Marco, unlikely feline protagonists in the battle against evil, confront their formidable human foe with courage, cleverness, and the ultimate sacrifice.
