The term "Southside Virginia" is used in these two volumes to include the counties of Amelia, Appomattox, Bedford, Brunswick, Campbell, Charlotte, Dinwiddle, Franklin, Greenville, Halifax, Henry, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, Prince George, and Sussex. These southside counties contributed heavily to the settlement of N.C., S.C., GA., TN., and KY. The records in these volumes are documented from the county court records, and include some notes on more than one generation of some of the listed. Though research has necessarily had to be limited, the compiler has included notes and other records deemed of value in tracing these families. Besides the states already mentioned into which people from southside VA. moved, reference is also made to these other states, viz: AR., FL., IL., IN., MS., MO., OH., PA., VA., LA., and N.Y.
