From Slaying Dragons Press Classics, this reprint of A Christian's Rule of Life and Darts of Fire includes a brief practical summary to aid the faithful as they adopt St. Alphonsus' Rule of Life as their own.
In 1816, just twenty-nine years after his death, Pope Pius VII said, "Alphonsus was in God's hands a sharp arrow, which, discharged against vice, strikes now in one place, now in another, in order to promote the honor of God and the salvation of souls. As a sharp arrow, heated by the fire of love, he has wounded the hearts of not a few priests ... One cannot wonder enough how many enmities he has removed, how many wandering sinners he has led back to the right road and to Christian perfection, by word and example, and by his numerous writings."
Salvation is ours to lay hold of, St. Alphonsus would say, by embracing the love of God and loving Him in return. From the Sacraments to the Saints, with Our Lord and His Holy Mother ever at our side, the gates of Heaven are wide open and graces are flowing steadily upon all who turn to Jesus Christ to be saved.
Those who follow the Christian rule of life have nothing to fear on that day when Our Lord calls them into eternal life. Let us heed the words of this great Saint and persevere in hope unto the end.
St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696 - 1787), was a zealous missionary, exemplary bishop, miracle worker, and prolific writer whose praises were sung by the whole Church during his life and after his death. Following his departure from this world, the Pope was inundated with requests to list St. Alphonsus Liguori among the great Doctors of the Church, an honor which his writings, capturing the hearts of all who take hold of them, testify he is worthy. The two works presented here are just a small part of the great writings he has left to the Church.
