"Advances in Embroidery" is Ahmad Al-Ashqar's first book of poems and includes his translations from Mahmoud Darwish, the Palestinian national poet. It is the first book in the Sandwich Series from Poets & Traitors Press, which publishes books of poetry and translations by a single author/translator. Led by its founding editor, Val Vinokur, Poets & Traitors emerged from the Poet/Translator Reading Series and from the New School's Literary Translation Workshop, both of which draw on authors who travel between creative writing and translation--artists for whom one language is not enough and whose own utterance carries, shapes, and is shaped by that of another.
