Our nations first folk songs were those of the native inhabitants. This is an attempt to resurrect the early remnants of the California Native American songs which reveal them to be a people with rich feelings and imagination. Very little infomation existed prior to 1949 when the author began to make friends with the remaining elders and then have them sing some of the songs they still remmbered which he recorded and set to music. Twenty-five of these songs are given in this book.
