Proof that it only takes one person to make a difference As she chatted on the phone with her grandparents, a wide smile formed on 17-year-old Kate Lauterbach’s lips. It was the summer of 2019 and they had just moved into a nursing home in Birmingham, Alabama, and were asking if she’d come perform her music at the facility. Kate had been passionate about music since her first piano lesson at 5 years old, eventually studying singing, bass and guitar as she got older. Her grandparents were her biggest fans. She would miss seeing them in her audiences.
