Cringing at every bump in the road, I pulled into the parking lot. Shouldering my purse, I took the shoebox with the sparrow fluttering inside from my daughter, Heather, and we hurried into Noah’s Ark Animal Hospital. Heather raced up to the man at reception. “Come quick. We need help!” He looked up from his computer at her and then seeing me, stood up quickly. All 6-foot-plus of him, with dark hair and eyes, and dressed in a denim shirt and black jeans. He reached for the box. “Careful,” I warned. “He’s very skittish.
