Brenda knew by the determined look on Penny’s face that she was about to announce one of her ‘plans’. ‘I’ve decided to get involved in this new thing I’ve heard about,’ Penny said decisively. ‘I see. What is it this time, then?’ ‘Don’t be like that, Bren. It’s called “random acts of kindness”. It’s about doing nice things for people – usually strangers – out of the blue as you go about your day, and trying to make the world a kinder place.’ Brenda had known Penny for many years and had been there through all the various projects she’d thrown herself into.
