The Rev Richard Coles explains why being a parish priest wasn’t all sermons and seriousness

It may not seem like it, but my pastoral duties as the vicar of Finedon extended beyond simply dressing up and standing at a pulpit on a Sunday morning. It also required me to dress up and appear on stage on a Saturday night – which, being at the more showbiz end of a vicar, suited me quite well. We are fortunate here as we have a church with its own theatre – the Star Hall – set up as a temperance theatre in the Victorian era as a way of providing entertainment for parishioners without the demon drink involved.
