What’s your earliest memory of journalism?
Reading newspapers. After school, I’d pick up a copy of the paper and pore over it. My nan was a cleaner for WHSmith so would bring home the out-of-date newspapers to share out. At school, when I said I wanted to be a journalist, I was told I should consider working in a typing pool. I remember challenging the careers officer, saying, ‘What advice is that? If anybody is in the wrong profession, it’s you.’ I’ve always had a lot of sass. By the time I applied to journalism school I had as much work experience as I could possibly garner. To this day, I love reading.
