TWEE OSEANE-AKWARIUM, 25 JAAR OUD Twee dekades gelede, voor dokumentêre programme soos die BBC se Blue Planet-reeks, was die lewe onder die branders vir die meeste Suid-Afrikaners ’n geheimenis. Ons het ook nie wêreldgehalte akwariums gehad waar ’n mens seediere van nader kon beskou nie. In November 1995 het dinge verander toe die broers Richard en Geoff Starke se droom bewaarheid word. Die Twee Oseane-akwarium het geopen ná 8 jaar se navorsing en 18 maande se bouwerk op ’n kaal lappie aarde. Dit was toe die grootste akwarium in Afrika (totdat die Ushaka Sea World in 2004 in Durban oopgemaak het). Die Twee Oseane is oorspronklik deur die Transnet-pensioenfonds en Norwich Life SA befonds, en word nou besit deur V&A Holdings Edms. Bpk. Die begroting vir die bouwerk het daardie jare by R34…
