Ek en die Draak

Die Drakensberg is Suid-Afrika se hoogste, langste én mooiste bergreeks. Dis ’n heiligdom vir stappers en vir diegene wat die stiltes van die wilde hoogtes inteug soos asem. Maar dié berge bied ook iets aan mense wat net wil rondry en hulle vergaap aan die landskappe, aan fotograwe, aan gesinne. Hier deel Weg-lesers hulle liefde vir die Drakensberg.

SAAMGESTEL DEUR TOAST COETZER

Toe ek ’n baba was – ek was nog nie eens ’n jaar oud nie – het my ouers, Rita en Tom, my saamgevat op ’n staptog in die Drakensberg. Ons het oornag in die Bannerman-hut in die Giant’s Castle-natuurreservaat. Iewers is ook ’n baie interessante foto van ’n toegesneeude tent wat sowat nege maande voor my geboorte geneem is... My ouers noem my “the Berg Rat”, en dié berg het nog altyd vir my na ’n tuiste gevoel. Ek gaan stap twee tot drie keer elke jaar daar. Ek het in Maart 2015 die eerste keer tot boop Cathedral Peak geklim. Dis 20 km (heen en weer) tot bo en jy styg met meer as 1500 m. Ons het dit in ’n dag gestap. Dié foto is sowat halfpad…
