1er janvier 1860 LES LIMITES DE PARIS Le 1er janvier 1860, la loi votée le 16 juin 1859 sur « l’extension des limites de Paris » entre en vigueur. La capitale redessine ses contours, passant de douze à vingt arrondissements, et adopte un plan qui n’a plus changé depuis. Les communes de Belleville, La Villette, Vaugirard et Grenelle sont entièrement absorbées, celles d’Auteuil, Passy, Batignolles-Monceau, Bercy, La Chapelle, Charonne et Montmartre très largement amputées. Au total, la réforme impose le redécoupage territorial de vingt-huit communes du département de la Seine qui chacune abandonne un peu, beaucoup ou la totalité de leur superficie. Par un coup de crayon, Paris double sa surface et s’agrandit de 4 365 hectares pour atteindre près de 8 000 hectares. Napoléon III réfléchit depuis un moment…
