If only everything in life was as reliable as a Volkswagen. Just another sentence in the illustrious history of VW marketing, but one that no doubt rang true when the cars of that era rolled off the production line. It coincided with the launch of the Mk2 Golf, the GTi version featuring prominently in VW’s TV adverts. Nowadays, these older cars rely more on the owner’s attention when it comes to reliability. Take care of your engine and it will take care of you, my dad used to say. That’s never truer than with an air-cooled Volkswagen.
