Once common Spanish peasant footwear, espadrilles have become quintessential summer gear in many parts of the world. Locally, we love artisan shoe brand Espadril, a collaboration between South African entrepeneur Rizqah Isaacs and her Spanish business partner Patricia Terre. The young duo, whose shop is based in Cape Town’s Bree Street and online, recently revealed the Espadril Spring/ Summer 2018 collection – it will be available online and in-store from early November. We think the name of the collection, Heat, is apt: It pays tribute to summer and, well, these shoes are simply sizzling. It includes designs inspired by animals in the tropics, like the tiger embroidered on denim. A hand-made pair from the new collection will set you back anywhere between R800 and R1 500.
