Cricket memorabilia once belonging to the game’s most iconic can be worth tens of thousands

Test great Alan Davidson loved to collect anything and everything gathered over a lifetime in the game. His cricket relics and memorabilia sold during the winter months for more than $320,000. One lot of badges made $70,000 – against an estimate of $200! Max Williamson from Abacus Auctions says quality ‘one-offs’ like Davo’s Sydney Cricket Ground trustee and life members badges will always be in demand. But even he had little idea just how keen the interest would be. ‘The two badges were both 9 carat gold with his name engraved on the reverse,’ he said. ‘Along with some other badges and cricketing cufflinks, they sold for $70,000.’ Previously only Baggy Green caps would generally command such outstanding premiums.
