The clue is in the name. The Great Ridge from Lose Hill to Mam Tor is without doubt a great ridge walk, serving up maximum drama for minimal effort. At just 12.5km with slightly more than 500m of ascent, it’s far from a tough outing for the competent hillwalker – but it packs a similar punch to hikes of double the distance. The views across Hope Valley and the Vale of Edale are glorious, the airy ridgeline is a joy to walk, and the twin villages of Hope and Castleton are full of charm.
