Great Shunner Fell

Take an excursion into the Yorkshire Dales via the Pennine Way and return via pathless wilderness in perfect isolation.

This walk takes you into real trackless wilderness country and works a way around the summits of Great Shunner Fell (716m) and Lovely Seat (675m). Although not one of the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks, at 716m, Great Shunner Fell is actually the third highest of the Dales’ summits. Standing well apart from its neighbours the top offers impressive views to the Lakeland peaks and other North Pennine hills, as well as of the neighbouring dales of Swaledale and Wensleydale, both of which have their river sources on its flanks. Isolation means that it is often treated as a ‘there and back’ walk, but the return via Lovely Seat in wild moorland adds an element of adventure and challenge.
