Could there be a formula for the perfect summer mountain adventure? We head to SCAFELL PIKE, via the wild folds of Eskdale, to find a winning combination.

DO IT Start/finish: Jubilee Bridge parking (NY213011) Distance: 20km Ascent: 1231m Terrain: Rocky and steep. On and off-path. Difficulty: Easy Grade 1 scrambling. Some exposure. Navigation: The walk into Eskdale and on and off Scafell Pike itself follows a path. The Cockly Pike Ridge Scramble to Ill Crag is off-path and you will need to be able to navigate in steep, rocky terrain. The ridge is quite wide, so this is especially important in poor visibility. Additions: Bag Sca Fell and/or Great End too, while you’re at it! Don’t get me wrong, I love all trips to the mountains. Even if it rains, the clouds hide the summits and I get blasted by the wind, the mountains never fail to deliver. Something just happens when you get up high. Worries become smaller.
