SECOND NEW CAT FOR TOWNSVILLE OPERATION

Ferry operator SeaLink Marine and Tourism has introduced a second new catamaran into its operation in Townsville, Queensland. The 30.8m long, Incat Crowther-designed Maggie Cat is working alongside Coolgaree Cat, which entered service in late 2020 and operates between Townsville and Palm Island. Maggie Cat, however, will operate as SeaLink’s flagship to Magnetic Island. Incat Crowther says the vessels were developed in close collaboration with SeaLink, with a goal of through-life efficiency, durability, and robustness in the open waters off Townsville. The designers say that efficiency gains mean the new ferry’s fuel burn is the same as the vessel it replaces, “despite it being a more sea-capable vessel with increased amenities, including an extra sun deck and a higher passenger capacity”.
