WHAT’S BITING

1 NSW Mid-North Coast: Bream and samson fish We’ve had a great run of bream lately, in both the estuaries and along the ocean rocks. They were easy to find, fishing the washes close in on the headlands with pilchard cubes or bonito strips, or by setting up a berley trail in the rivers and lakes and using pink nippers, prawns, or slimy mackerel strips as bait. Offshore, the close in reefs have produced small samson fish (pictured) up to 4kg, which have turned up in catches of pearl perch and snapper, along with a few yellowtail kingfish making up the numbers. Over the coming month we should find more of the same, along with the arrival of yellowfin tuna which will make for some great sport and sashimi dinners.…
