The book of Esther has it all-a victim and a villain, a power struggle and a power play. While it is an intriguing story, it is, more importantly, a study of power-how one abuses it and loses it, and how one gains it and triumphs in it. We can learn from the book of Esther by imagining its relationship scenarios and comparing them with our similar challenges in the workplace.
While you embark on this study, take the time to read the book of Esther. The story depicts a patriarchal society that had little tolerance for an independent, non-compliant female. We cannot ignore that the norms for that day included gender inequality; however, our primary focus is to glean from the wisdom that the book of Esther carries, and I encourage you to read it with an open mind. In this study, we will observe and learn from the main characters of the book of Esther. By putting ourselves in their shoes and examining our internal reactions, we will gain a fresh perspective on what power truly is.
As professional women of faith, we live not according to a mantra but a mandate. Our path to success will differ from that of this world. To succeed, we must operate at a higher level of intentionality, being mindful of the moments and how well we steward life's opportunities. My hope is for you to emerge from this study with fresh insight and a preparedness to identify your "such a time as this" moments!
