Irish director John Carney launched a public attack on Keira Knightley last week, implying that she can’t act, and had rather ruined his film Begin Again (2013). “Keira’s thing is to hide who you are and I don’t think you can be an actor and do that,” he told The Independent. “I like to work with curious, proper film actors as opposed to movie stars.” He claimed that her “entourage” had got in the way, and when asked if he’d learned anything from the experience, replied: “I learned that I’ll never [work] with supermodels again.” Faye Dunaway honed her reputation for eccentricity last week by turning up for a gala dinner at Cannes with a weighing scale.
