Cincinnati, Ohio Gorilla shot dead: Police are to investigate how a three-year-old boy came to fall into the primate enclosure at Cincinnati Zoo – an incident that led to the shooting dead of an endangered western lowland gorilla. Witnesses said the ape, which stood over the boy, and pulled him through shallow water, was acting protectively. However, zoo keepers said they had no choice but to kill the 17-year-old silverback, named Harambe, as he could have harmed the child (even inadvertently), and a tranquilliser wouldn’t have worked in time.
