Teen breaks world flight record

On August 24, 17-year-old Mack Rutherford landed his Shark airplane in Sofia, Bulgaria, and became the youngest person to fly solo around the world. During his five-month journey, he also set a Guinness World Record for being the youngest person to circle the globe in an ultralight plane (a plane with no more than two seats that weighs less than 1,000 pounds). The previous record holder for the solo flight, Travis Ludlow of the UK, made the journey last year at age 18. Rutherford, who is Belgian and British, was 16 when he departed from Sofia on March 23.
