Black-footed ferrets A total of 21 black-footed ferret kits have been born at the Phoenix Zoo. The species was thought to be extinct, but efforts to reintroduce the ferrets into the wild have shown success. The kits were bred as part of the restoration project. Hippos Ten African countries have had to propose stronger legal protections to prevent hippos from going extinct.
