Fair butter sculptor

Minnesota high school arts teacher Gerry Kulzer is now the official butter sculptor of the Minnesota State Fair, a job that celebrates the region’s strong dairy industry. He took over for Linda Christensen, who held the position for 50 years and trained Kelzer for about three years. Kelzer told Minnesota Public Radio, “This is the best job in the world.” At the fair this month, Kelzer sculpted nine 90-pound blocks of butter to look like each dairy princess finalist. To complete his creations, he worked inside a refrigerator at 40° F wearing three layers of clothes.
