NFL changes concussion policy
The National Football League (NFL) has made a move aimed at keeping its players safe. On October 8, it announced an immediate change to how players are diagnosed and treated if they appear to have suffered a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) called a concussion. A concussion can be caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. It can damage brain cells and cause headaches, memory loss, and other issues. Repeated brain injuries can have devastating effects. The NFL reviews its concussion guidelines each year.
