Scientists at work In one area, visitors can watch as scientists handle fossils that came from locations nearby or around the world. The building lobby also has a monitor that is connected to a microscope the experts use for examinations. Fossils Over the past 16 years, experts working in the quarry near the museum have recovered more than 100 species from the earth. Many of them are now on display in the museum. There is also an exhibit that re-creates the quarry’s fossil bed. Life-size creatures It took about three years to make the dinosaurs in the exhibits. One is a thoracosaurus (above), a type of crocodile that lived 66 million years ago. The model was based on a skeleton found about 75 yards from where the replica sits today.…
