The 2025 season, getting underway soon, is marking 75 years of the most prestigious motor racing series in the world: Formula 1 (F1). What is Formula 1? Formula 1 is a racing competition featuring cars that have one seat and open wheels (wheels outside the car’s body). The“Formula” in F1 refers to the rules that govern the sport, including the cars’ design. F1 is overseen by the global governing body for motorsports, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). An F1 race, called a Grand Prix, features 10 teams made up of two drivers each, and races are held all over the world.
