A vaccine in the form of a cream

A team of scientists at Stanford University in California developed a vaccine that is applied to the skin as a cream, rather than injected by a needle. It can reduce side effects of shots, like fever and soreness. Vaccines work by introducing pathogens (bacteria or viruses) into a person’s body. That triggers the body to produce antibodies, which fight the pathogens. Instead of injecting the pathogens, the cream uses bacteria that live on skin to carry them into the body.
