President Joe Biden delivered the State of the Union address at the US Capitol building on February 7. Members of Congress (branch of government that makes laws) and various guests attended while more than 27 million people watched the speech on 16 television networks. What is a State of the Union address? The speech is an annual message from the President about the top issues facing the country. The US Constitution (nation’s top law) requires that the President provide this information “from time to time.” The first address, called the Annual Message, was given by George Washington in 1790.
