Researchers have developed a “living battery” that uses fungi (a group of plant-like living things including mold, mildew, and mushrooms) to create electricity. Fungi survive by using decaying material or other living things for food, then turning those nutrients into energy. The new device is 3D printed and uses two types of fungi to capture some of this energy and convert it into electricity. The team that made it mixed the fungi into a 3D printer ink that is biodegradable (which means it breaks down naturally) and nontoxic (not poisonous).…
