Virachey National Park, Cambodia

Virachey National Park, established in 1993, is Cambodia’s largest national park. Measuring about 1,284 square miles, the park is filled with trees that are more than 1,000 years old. It provides habitats for hundreds of species of birds, including the great hornbill and red-collared woodpecker, and large mammals such as tigers and elephants. While much of the park remains unexplored by humans, a recent study revealed several rare species living there, such as the clouded leopard, the sun bear, and the Sunda pangolin, an unusual mammal with scaly skin.…
