Literature ambassador begins term

The Library of Congress, in partnership with Every Child a Reader, announced that children’s book author Mac Barnett will be the new National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. The prestigious two-year appointment gives an author the opportunity to bring attention to the value of reading for children. Barnett, age 42, is the ninth author to hold the position, which was established in 2008. He has written more than 60 books for young readers, including the Mac B., Kid Spy series and The First Cat in Space graphic novels. His books, known for their humorous plots and quirky characters, have sold millions of copies worldwide and been translated into more than 30 languages.
