New hero behind the shield

Anthony Mackie makes history as Captain America in the latest Marvel film.

In the film Captain America: Brave New World, premiering in theaters on February 14, the iconic superhero is played by Anthony Mackie. The actor is best known for his role as Sam Wilson (“The Falcon”) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU, where superheroes have interconnected stories). At the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), his character became the first Black Captain America. Mackie, age 46, grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He always loved acting and drama, and he attended the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City. He made his big-screen debut in the 2002 film 8 Mile, alongside Eminem, and has since appeared in numerous films, including the 2008 Oscar-winning war drama The Hurt Locker.
