Some people say George Washington had the greatest impact, but others disagree.

George Washington led the troops that freed the US colonies from British rule, then helped create the Constitution, which established a new, independent nation and is still the highest law in the US. Yet America has changed since his time, from 13 colonies to a massive nation of 50 states and from a country where only white men with property could vote to one where nearly all citizens over 18 can cast a ballot. Through the years, other Presidents have played a major role in transforming American democracy and civic life and have overcome many challenges at home and abroad. What do you think?
