Winning dog makes history

A bloodhound named Trumpet won the top prize at the 146th Westminster Kennel Club (WKC) Dog Show on June 22, becoming the first of his breed to win the most prestigious dog competition in the US. The WKC dog show, established in New York City in 1877, is the nation’s second-longest continuously held sporting event, after the Kentucky Derby, a horse race. More than 3,000 dogs competed in this year’s show, held in Tarrytown, New York. Trumpet was awarded the first place trophy known as Best in Show, which is given to the dog that is considered the best of all breeds in the competition.
