The best-selling book series The Bad Guys, by Australian author Aaron Blabey, became an animated action-comedy that arrived in theaters in April. The movie and books are about animal criminals who decide to become good. The big-screen version was one of the most popular kids’ films of the year. Blabey’s book illustrations are scratchy black-and-white drawings, but the film brought the characters to life with colorful 2D and 3D animation. Director Pierre Perifel told The Week Junior that the look was inspired by animation and graphic novels from France and Japan. As in the books, the film’s message is about redemption and not judging people. “Some people can do bad things,” Perifel said, “but that doesn’t mean they’re always bad.”…
